Trump: Hamas must disarm or be destroyed

On Wednesday, January 21st, President Trump attended and delivered a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. He also held bilateral meetings with leaders from multiple countries. When discussing the situation in Gaza, Trump stated that Hamas must abandon their weapons or they will be “eliminated.”

“I believe that peace has been achieved in the Middle East. Of course, there are still some small issues, such as Hamas,” the President said.

Trump revealed that within three weeks, it should be clear whether Hamas agrees to give up their weapons, and he mentioned that if they do not comply, action will be taken against them.

“They have already agreed. They must do so. We will know within the next two to three days—of course, within the next three weeks—whether they will do so,” Trump stated during the Q&A session following his speech at the Davos World Economic Forum.

“If they do not comply, they will soon be eliminated. They will be eliminated.”

Following that, Trump held a bilateral meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. Sisi praised Trump for his role in brokering a ceasefire in Gaza.

“I would like to emphasize to my colleagues and the media once again, without President Trump, we could not have reached an agreement on the Gaza issue,” he said.

Trump added, “I agree with your view on Gaza, because you are right. Without our intervention, there would be no peace.”

He reiterated that if Hamas does not relinquish their arms, they will be “removed.”

The U.S. government is moving forward with a new mechanism, led by Washington and named the “Board of Peace,” to oversee transitional governance after the Gaza conflict and plans to expand its scope to address other international conflicts in the future.

The initial concept of the “Board of Peace” was a small group composed of a few world leaders aimed at monitoring the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire plan, including deploying international peacekeeping forces, disarming Hamas, and mobilizing international funds to rebuild the war-torn Gaza Strip.

However, the Trump administration hopes to elevate this institution into a more comprehensive global organization.
