On October 6, 2025, the topic of “Ningde self-igniting car only traveled 1066 kilometers” trended online. The incident started on the afternoon of October 5 when a fire broke out in a seaside parking lot in Dongbi Village, Sansha Town, Ningde, Fujian Province. An Aveita 06 new energy car caught fire, subsequently engulfing and burning down seven neighboring cars including Audis and Eans. Regarding the ignition of the Aveita 06 that set fire to 7 cars, the Aveita official stated that they are currently investigating, and the specific cause is still under verification.
According to the Sanxiang Urban Daily, on October 5 in Dongbi Village, Sansha Town, Ningde City, Fujian Province, an Aveita 06 car suddenly caught fire, causing 7 cars around it to catch fire and explode, including brands like Audi, BMW, Mazda, and Ean, all of which sustained varying degrees of damage.
Later, the female car owner posted a video response on social media, confirming that the Aveita car was hers. She expressed, “Oh my gosh, the electric car caught fire and exploded, it happened to me, luckily no one was in the car, it then spread to the cars next to it, causing about 6 or 7 cars to explode, how miserable, can you still trust Aveita?”
In a subsequent detailed post by the individual, she mentioned that from the moment she saw smoke coming out of the car at 1:56 pm to it catching fire in less than a minute, and becoming uncontrollable fire within three minutes. It is worth noting that she purchased the car on August 28 this year and had been using it for one and a half months, traveling 1066 kilometers. Following the incident, the person mentioned that their “mental state was basically in a daze,” thankfully supported by family members, or else it would have been unbearable.
From the video footage, it can be seen that the Aveita caught fire initially from the passenger side, with the app showing that even before catching fire at 2:00, the interior temperature of the car had reached 76.4°C.
The woman later deleted the previously uploaded video and stated that she had submitted it to the fire department for record. She also emphasized that all actions should be based on the official investigation results.
According to an Ean car owner affected by the incident, the burned cars belonged to tourists, and there were no casualties.
In response to the fire accident, the “BUG” column sought confirmation from the Aveita official, who stated that the company is currently cooperating with the fire department for investigation, and the specific cause of the fire is still being verified, hence they cannot disclose more information.
It is worth noting that this incident occurred only 19 days after Wang Hui was appointed chairman of Aveita on September 19.
In the past two years, Aveita has changed its chairman twice. In the first 9 months of this year, Aveita’s car sales totaled 90,739, only achieving 41.24% of its annual target of 220,000 cars. Facing the sudden fire incident, it poses a significant challenge for Aveita under Wang Hui’s leadership to achieve its annual sales target.
Established in July 2018, Aveita, formerly known as Changan New Energy Automobile Technology Co., Ltd., was renamed Aveita Technology in May 2021, positioning itself as a high-end new energy automobile brand. Aveita is known in the industry for the “CHN” model, where “CHN” represents Changan Automobile, Huawei, and Ningde Times. Changan Automobile and Ningde Times are its first and second largest shareholders, with ownership stakes of 40.99% and 9.17%, respectively.
The reason why this incident has sparked significant public attention is that Aveita’s official promotion of the safety of the 06 model’s battery sharply contrasts with reality. Safety was repeatedly emphasized in promotional materials before and after the launch of Aveita 06. The company released several videos showcasing stringent tests on the Aveita 06 battery. One video showed the battery being continuously heated at 1000°C for 260 seconds, far exceeding the national standard, and after the test, the battery remained “non-ignitable and non-explosive” even after 24 hours of static storage.
In another promotional video, the Aveita 06 battery underwent an industry-first five-pin puncture test at the bottom of the battery pack. The official claim was that the battery remained “without thermal runaway, no ignition, no explosion” post-puncture, emphasizing that Aveita 06 comes standard with Ningde Times batteries, providing users with ultimate safety.
Last December, during an Aveita press conference, CEO Chen Zhuo stated, “So far, all Aveita cars use Ningde Times batteries, and we do not use miscellaneous brand batteries. So far, we have maintained zero self-ignition.”
In addition to the recent Aveita 06 fire incident, in May this year, Aveita attracted global media attention due to the “drag coefficient gate” incident. The automotive blogger “Zurich Beyler” uploaded a controversial video on overseas social media showing the measured drag coefficient of Aveita 12 production cars at 0.28Cd, which was 33% higher than the advertised 0.21Cd by Aveita.
