On May 21st, a factory near the Baiyun Airport caught fire, affecting multiple factories.
In the morning of May 21st, several netizens posted that a fire broke out near Guangzhou Baiyun Airport. Videos circulating online showed black smoke billowing into the sky, with thick smoke engulfing the area.
According to Mr. Ding, an eyewitness, who told local news, he was queuing for security check around 5 a.m. that day and saw black smoke outside the airport, covering half of the sky, indicating a large fire.
According to a live report from Guangdong Radio and Television Station, thick smoke filled the air and could be seen several kilometers away. Following the incident, a road junction in the Tuanjie Village was closed off, with multiple factories being affected and burned, and excavators were on-site for handling the aftermath.
Netizens mentioned, “The fire started around 4 a.m. on May 21st, burning down many factories in Xinhua Tuanjie Village. It originated from a cardboard factory, causing damage to surrounding factories.”
Around 7 a.m. on the 21st, Guangzhou Fire Department reported that at 5 a.m. on May 21st, a fire broke out in a temporary shed in Tuanjie Village, Xin’ya Street, Huadu District. The situation is currently under control with no casualties reported. The Huadu District Fire and Rescue Brigade informed media personnel that the fire has been extinguished, with ongoing clean-up operations.
Baiyun Airport posted on Weibo that the fire occurred on the west side of the airport, more than 1 kilometer away from the airport’s edge. Baiyun Airport operations were not affected, and flights were running on schedule.
