【Epoch Times, October 23, 2025】Apple’s new Vision Pro may not be as eye-catching as the iPhone 17, but the fact that Apple chose to produce this product in Vietnam indicates a continued shift of the supply chain away from mainland China, reducing dependence on Chinese production.
The latest model of Vision Pro, a mixed reality headset, was released on Wednesday, October 22, equipped with a new M5 processor and a more comfortable strap. According to the label on the packaging, this headset is assembled in Vietnam. The original model first appeared in February 2024 with an M2 processor, initially manufactured in China.
Bloomberg reported that although Vision Pro is one of Apple’s lowest volume products, this move highlights the company’s gradual departure from China. An Apple spokesperson declined to comment on this move.
Apple is expanding iPhone production in its five factories in India, including the Tata Group factory in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, and a new Foxconn (Hon Hai) factory near Bangalore Airport.
In order to mitigate the impact of tariffs, Apple has already shifted most of its iPhone production for the U.S. market from China to India earlier this year and expanded the number of iPhone factories in the country. Apple hopes to produce at least 50 million iPhones in India this year, with most models produced in India being exported to the United States.
The company produces most of its AirPods and Apple Watches in Vietnam, and some iPads and HomePods are also manufactured in the country.
Bloomberg News reported last week that a range of new smart home devices from Apple, including smart displays, indoor security cameras, and desktop robots, will also be produced in Vietnam.
Apple is increasingly manufacturing some Mac models in Thailand and Malaysia as well. Earlier this year, the company reached an agreement with the Indonesian government to produce some mesh components for AirPods Max headphones in the country.
It is currently unclear whether Apple will transfer all Vision Pro production to Vietnam or if some configurations will still be produced in China. Apple diversifies the production of its other devices across multiple countries/regions.
Apple is also expanding production of some products in the United States. Apple and its partner Corning announced plans to produce glass covers for all iPhones and watches sold globally in the U.S. Apple is also assembling some high-end Mac Pro desktop computers in Texas, but producing flagship or complex products in the U.S. will take time.
Apple CEO Cook stated that the U.S. chip supply chain is expected to produce 19 billion chips for Apple this year. He also mentioned investments in TSMC, believing it will become a leading manufacturer of advanced chips in the U.S. He stated that Apple has reached a rare earth magnet deal with U.S. company MP Materials.
