On the evening of August 15, Jacky Cheung’s “60+ World Tour Concert” returned to Kuala Lumpur, kicking off a two-week, six-show tour. It had been two years since his last visit to Malaysia, and during the opening show, Cheung humorously referenced the scare he had when he stumbled on stage due to Meniere’s disease, commonly known as ear imbalance syndrome, urging himself, “Don’t faint, make sure to stand firm,” which elicited laughter from the audience.
The first show in Kuala Lumpur was the 269th concert of the “60+ World Tour Concert” that Jacky Cheung initiated in June 2023. He started on a high platform with the overture “Overture,” followed by energetic performances of “Ooh La La,” “Heroes on the Road,” and “Love is Uncontrollable,” setting the stage for the concert.
Cheung expressed his happiness at returning to Malaysia and admitted to being “a bit overly excited.” Reflecting on the “accidental fall” during his performance in Malaysia in 2023, he confessed that the fainting incident had been a huge scare for him because it was the first time in decades of performing that he had collapsed, especially considering his age had crossed 60.
“After my last collapse, I made sure not to faint again this time. So I prepared myself mentally to stand firmly!” Cheung humorously cheered himself on.
During his performance in Malaysia in 2023, Cheung revealed that he has suffered from “ear imbalance syndrome” since childhood, experiencing it almost every year. Unfortunately, it flared up during that concert but soon subsided. He vowed to pay more attention to his health in the future and expressed his belief that he could continue singing even into his 70s and 80s because he truly loves singing.
Cheung once again performed the one-foot stand during the concert, saying as he did it, “My one-foot stance is still as solid as ever, even more proficient, considering I have done it over a thousand times,” earning cheers from the audience.
At 64, Jacky Cheung faced various challenges during his “60+” concert tours: in Malaysia two years ago, he stumbled due to Meniere’s disease midway through the show but luckily was unhurt; in China, Shanghai, he had to postpone due to contracting COVID-19; in Taipei, he had to postpone three shows at the Arena due to RSV infection (respiratory syncytial virus) and canceled three concerts in Guangzhou for health reasons.
Addressing rumors of retiring after completing the “60+ World Tour Concert,” Cheung denied it during his Malaysia concert and promised the audience, “I will definitely come back to Malaysia to perform before I turn 70!”
“I am not ready to leave the stage because of the cheers and encouragement from all of you, which have helped me through tough times. ’60+’ is my 10th solo concert, and those who attended my first concert might still be around for my next 10. For myself and for everyone, I must maintain good health,” Cheung optimistically looked forward to his future concerts.
