NVIDIA to Resume Selling H20 Chips to China.

Nvidia announced on Monday (July 14th) that it has received assurance from the U.S. government to sell H20 artificial intelligence chips to China. CEO Huang Renxun later mentioned in a media interview about this breakthrough, stating that “the U.S. government has agreed to Nvidia’s license application.”

On Monday evening, Nvidia released a statement on its company blog regarding the news. The subtitle of the article read, “Nvidia to resume sales of H20 to China, introducing a new GPU fully compliant with Chinese standards.”

Huang Renxun held meetings with officials and customers in Washington and Beijing in July regarding the artificial intelligence (AI) industry. In Washington, he promised President Trump and policymakers that Nvidia supports job creation in the U.S., strengthens domestic AI infrastructure and manufacturing, and ensures America’s leadership in global AI.

Huang Renxun stated, “General-purpose open-source research and foundational models are the key basis for AI innovation. We believe that every civilian model should achieve optimal performance on U.S. technology architecture to encourage countries worldwide to choose American technology, further enhancing America’s leading position in the field of AI.”

Subsequently, he traveled to Beijing this week to attend the 3rd China International Supply Chain Promotion Expo, where he expressed confidence to Chinese customers that a new round of export permits is expected to be approved soon, allowing for the resumption of H20 chip shipments.

The statement mentioned that “Nvidia has resubmitted the application, preparing to resume sales of H20 GPUs to China. The company has received assurance from the U.S. government for export permits and expects to begin shipments soon.” This chip is a version specially designed for the Chinese market to comply with previous U.S. trade restrictions but has been banned from sales since April this year.

Additionally, in Beijing, Huang Renxun announced the launch of a new and fully U.S.-export-compliant special edition RTX PRO GPU tailored for digital twin (DT) AI technology in smart factories and logistics sectors in the Chinese market.

During his visit to China, Huang Renxun discussed with local officials how AI can enhance productivity and emphasized the importance of global researchers collaborating to promote secure and reliable AI technology for creating more value in society.

Huang Renxun’s visit to China has drawn close attention from figures in the U.S. and Chinese political and business circles. Senators Jim Banks (Indiana Republican) and Elizabeth Warren (Massachusetts Democrat) wrote to Huang Renxun on July 11th, requesting that he avoids companies cooperating with the Chinese military or intelligence agencies and entities listed on U.S. export restriction lists during his trip to China. The letter expressed concerns that Nvidia chips may enable Chinese companies to support military and intelligence activities of the Chinese Communist Party, despite Huang Renxun’s public insistence on exporting these chips to China.

The upcoming Supply Chain Promotion Expo, scheduled from the 16th to the 20th, will host over 230 first-time exhibitors, Nvidia being among them for the first time, as reported by Chinese official media in response to the invitation from the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade. Huang Renxun is set to attend the opening ceremony tomorrow.
