Iran Attacks Bahrain and Kuwait, Gulf Cooperation Council Condemns

Iran launched missile and drone attacks against Bahrain and Kuwait on Saturday, June 6, sparking condemnation from multiple countries. The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), also known as the Gulf Cooperation Council, accused Iran of threatening regional stability with its terrorist attacks.

The Bahraini Foreign Ministry stated that the missiles and drones launched by Iran had been intercepted, and called on Iran to immediately cease its attacks on Gulf neighbors. The Bahraini Ministry of Defense stated in a declaration that Iran continues to conduct systematic aggression through “appalling missile and drone attacks targeting civilians in the Kingdom of Bahrain.”

The statement did not specify the exact time of the missile launch, but Bahraini residents were advised to relocate to safe areas overnight, and alarms were sounded.

The Bahraini Defense Forces stated on Saturday that “the command reaffirms that all weapons and forces are at the highest state of readiness and are fully prepared to defend the kingdom,” while denouncing the attack as a “flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.”

Meanwhile, the Kuwaiti military announced early Saturday on X platform that the country was under “hostile missile and drone attacks.”

Kuwait strongly condemned the “appalling attacks repeatedly launched by Iran,” with the latest attack reportedly occurring on Saturday morning. The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a declaration that this attack represents a “serious escalation of the situation” and a “blatant violation of its sovereignty.”

“Kuwait reserves the right to take all necessary measures to safeguard its security and defend its territory,” the statement said.

Hours earlier, the US Central Command announced that it had intercepted ballistic missiles and drones launched by Iran on Friday, June 5, aimed at the Strait of Hormuz and Arab Gulf allies. In response to Iran’s actions, the US military struck some of Iran’s coastal surveillance radar sites.

The US Central Command stated on Friday evening that Iran launched seven ballistic missiles towards Kuwait and Bahrain, with six intercepted by the US military. The seventh Iranian missile failed to hit its target. There were no reports of casualties among US military personnel in this incident.

Jassim Al Budaiwi, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, stated in a release on Saturday that “the Iranian regime continues to carry out terrorist attacks on the infrastructure and civilian facilities of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the State of Kuwait, demonstrating its intent to disrupt the security and stability of the region as well as undermine peace efforts.”

Qatar also strongly condemned Iran’s attacks on Kuwait and Bahrain, calling it a blatant violation of the sovereignty of both countries and a clear breach of international law. The UAE also issued a strong condemnation of Iran’s attacks.

Egypt described Iran’s actions as a “dangerous escalation, threatening the security and stability of the Gulf region and the entire region,” while Saudi Arabia stated that Iran’s recent attacks pose a threat to regional and international security.
