On the morning of September 7th in Hailun City, Suihua City, Heilongjiang Province, a white cloud band appeared spanning the sky, seemingly endless, resembling a “snow-capped mountain” approaching. Many local residents captured this scene, describing it as spectacular and awe-inspiring.
Videos circulating on mainland social media show a long horizontal rolling cloud band hanging low in the sky above Hailun City, appearing to connect with the ground from a distance, forming a white “cloud wall.” Many residents took out their phones to record this magnificent scene.
Some netizens commented that this is a roll cloud, resembling a “snow-capped mountain,” followed by a dense mass behind it. They had never seen such a spectacle before, considering it extraordinary.
According to a report by “Extreme News,” meteorological staff from the Suihua City Meteorological Bureau stated on September 8th that a rare roll cloud appeared in Hailun City around 6 am on the 7th, lasting for less than 2 hours.
The staff mentioned that roll clouds are generally strip-shaped, with a longer horizontal length and a narrower width, and on the 7th, this roll cloud swept across the northwest of Hailun City from west to east. The dense mass behind it was a cumulonimbus cloud, with a cumulative rainfall of about a dozen millimeters, falling short of heavy rain.
The appearance of roll clouds typically heralds the onset of thunderstorm activity. They are part of severe convective weather systems, often accompanied by strong winds, heavy rain, and even severe weather phenomena such as hail and tornadoes.
