The 22nd of January, 2026 Epoch Times reported that on Wednesday, President Trump stated that Russian President Putin has accepted an invitation to join his “Board of Peace” initiative aimed at resolving global conflicts. However, Putin mentioned that he is still “considering” the invitation and proposed specific financial intentions to become a “permanent member.”
“He has received the invitation, and he has accepted it.” Trump told reporters after meeting with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
According to Reuters, shortly after Trump’s remarks, Putin told the Russian Security Council that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is currently studying the proposal and will respond at the appropriate time.
However, according to the Turkish Anadolu Agency (AA), Putin presented specific financial intentions to join the Board of Peace during the meeting. He stated that Russia could allocate $1 billion from frozen Russian assets to pay the “permanent member” dues required for joining the organization.
“We can allocate $1 billion from the frozen Russian assets from the previous U.S. government administration to the Board of Peace.” Putin said.
Putin has instructed Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to further study this institution proposal promoted by the United States and coordinate positions with relevant partners.
Last week, the White House announced the establishment of the “Board of Peace” and approved the establishment of the “National Committee for the Administration of Gaza” – one of the four designated institutions responsible for managing the transitional phase of the region.
According to statements from leaders of countries invited to join the committee, members can join for free in the initial three years, but to become a permanent member, a fee of $1 billion is required.
The establishment of the “Board of Peace” comes at a time when the second stage of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza is initiated. Since Hamas attacked Israel in October 2023, triggering conflicts, the region has experienced severe civilian casualties, infrastructure damage, and a humanitarian crisis that has continued to draw significant international attention.
