Taiwanese veteran artist Lai Pei-Hsia’s daughter, Xie Pei-Ting’s foreign husband Kevin, recently passed away suddenly due to a failed heart transplant surgery. The couple got married in the United States in October last year, but just one year into their marriage, they faced the tragic separation of death, leaving their family in immense grief.
On December 11th, Lai Pei-Hsia shared at a public event that Kevin had undergone a heart transplant surgery. Despite the family’s hope for his recovery, she received the devastating news in the early hours of December 3rd, just two days after she had completed her concert in Taiwan on November 30th – that Kevin did not survive the surgery failure. Upon learning the news of her son-in-law’s death, she immediately flew to the US to help her daughter handle the aftermath.
Lai Pei-Hsia revealed that her daughter and Kevin had their wedding in the US in October last year, and within a year of their marriage, they were separated by death. During her emotional recount of the events, Lai Pei-Hsia choked up, unable to accept the sudden loss of such a good young man. She expressed that watching her daughter endure this pain during this period was the most difficult part for a mother, feeling powerless, only able to be there and accept, saying, “Such is life.”
Lai Pei-Hsia mentioned that her son-in-law Kevin had been suffering from congenital heart disease since childhood, and his health had been unstable in recent years. Xie Pei-Ting had been by his side in the intensive care unit, unable to fly back to Taiwan to attend Lai Pei-Hsia’s first solo concert.
In fact, when Lai Pei-Hsia was preparing for the concert, she had already received news of her son-in-law’s hospitalization after the surgery, and the situation was not optimistic. Despite her belief that “I always believed he would pull through,” the outcome was not as she had hoped for.
Regarding her recent release of the single “There Will Always Be Someone,” Lai Pei-Hsia shared that the song was originally meant to be the theme song for her concert, but it has now become her way of honoring Kevin’s memory.
Lai Pei-Hsia expressed her deep emotions, saying, “The birth of ‘There Will Always Be Someone’ embodies all the love and understanding I have for Kevin. He showed me the fragility of life and how love can still support us even in the most difficult moments.”
