New York, November 10, 2025 – The Taiwan Chamber of Commerce in New York held its 49th annual meeting and a commemorative gala on November 8 in Flushing to celebrate its founding 49 years ago and honor the late founding president, Tsai Rentai. Over 400 guests gathered to pay tribute to Tsai Rentai’s contributions and spiritual legacy. The current president, Sam Lin, who owns 41 restaurant chain stores, emphasized the values of honesty and integrity for Taiwanese businessmen, stating that as a bridge, Taiwanese businessmen represent the values in this turbulent world.
Established in 1976, the New York Taiwan Chamber of Commerce is the first business association in North America to carry “Taiwan” in its name. Upholding the principles of unity, mutual assistance, and service, the chamber has become a vital platform for connecting Taiwan-America economic and trade relations, promoting overseas Chinese community exchanges, and uniting Taiwanese compatriots, as it approaches its 50th anniversary next year.
In his speech as the 48th and 49th president, Sam Lin encouraged everyone to realize their responsibilities as Taiwanese businessmen, emphasizing that they are not just business owners but also representatives of Taiwan’s spirit on the world stage. He stressed the importance of showcasing Taiwanese businesspeople as diligent and trustworthy individuals who strive for respect rather than mere success, carrying the courage, professionalism, and kindness of Taiwan to write longer stories of success in New York.
When it comes to doing business, what is most important? With 22 years of entrepreneurial experience and 41 restaurant openings, Sam Lin shared his belief in decency and honesty as essential elements. He emphasized that true success lies in credibility and trust, where others hearing the term “Taiwanese businessman” would nod in approval, feel assured, and be willing to open doors. Operating with integrity is not just a strategy but a fundamental principle.
Amid challenging international conditions, global supply chain rearrangements, and uncertain cross-strait relations, Sam Lin highlighted the role of Taiwanese businessmen as bridges between conflicts. He discussed how they facilitate Taiwanese companies’ entry into the U.S. market while showcasing Taiwan’s professionalism and integrity to international businesses, underscoring the chamber’s strength in creating opportunities, building relationships, and perpetuating values.
During the event, Mrs. Tsai Xiezhi, the widow of Tsai Rentai, delivered a speech, recalling her late husband’s emphasis on honesty and integrity as the core values for members of the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce, emphasizing the importance of carrying forward this legacy towards the future.
Various distinguished guests including Congresswoman Meng Zhaowen, State Senators Liu Chunyi and Chen Xueli, Assemblyman Zheng Yongjia, as well as Consul General Zhang Lixian from the Economic and Cultural Office in New York, attended the gala to congratulate the chamber. They acknowledged the contributions of Taiwanese businessmen to the local community, praised their efforts in enhancing Taiwan-U.S. relations, promoting the kindness of Taiwanese people. Together, they wished for the prosperous development of the chamber’s future endeavors.
