Taiwan’s Central Weather Bureau continued to issue a mild typhoon warning for Typhoon Danna, which is approaching both over the sea and land on July 6th. The land alert area has been expanded to include counties and cities south of New Taipei City, Yilan, Hualien, Taitung, and Penghu.
According to the Taiwan Central Weather Bureau, as of 9 a.m. today, the center of Typhoon Danna is located at 21.5 degrees north latitude, 118.2 degrees east longitude, about 270 kilometers south-southwest of Penghu. The typhoon is moving at a speed of 18 to 22 kilometers per hour towards the northeast, with a central pressure of 982 hPa. The maximum wind speed near the center is 28 meters per second (approximately 101 kilometers per hour), equivalent to a Beaufort scale level 10 wind, with gusts reaching 35 meters per second (approximately 126 kilometers per hour), equivalent to a Beaufort scale level 12 wind. The radius of gale-force winds extends up to 120 kilometers from the center in all directions.
The Central Weather Bureau stated that based on the latest data, the center of Typhoon Danna is currently located southwest of Penghu and is moving towards the northeast. The typhoon poses a threat to areas ranging from New Taipei City to Pingtung, Nantou, Yilan, Hualien, Taitung, and Penghu. It is expected that the intensity of this typhoon will slightly increase and the gale radius will expand.
The land areas under alert for Typhoon Danna include: New Taipei City, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Miaoli, Taichung, Changhua, Nantou, Yunlin, Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung, Pingtung, Hengchun Peninsula, Yilan, Hualien, Taitung, and Penghu, where precautions should be taken.
The sea areas under alert for Typhoon Danna include: Dongsha Islands, Bashi Channel, Taiwan Strait, and the northern waters of Taiwan, where shipping and operating vessels should exercise caution.
The Central Weather Bureau has issued a heavy rain advisory due to the impact of the typhoon and its outer circulation. Local heavy or extremely heavy rain is expected in Taitung County and the Hengchun Peninsula on July 6th. Starting in the morning, there will be incidents of heavy or extremely heavy rain in Pingtung County, mountainous areas of Kaohsiung City, Hualien County, Yunlin County, Chiayi County and City, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, mountainous areas of Nantou County, as well as the probability of heavy rain in Yilan, Penghu, Kinmen, Orchid Island, and Green Island.
Furthermore, from this evening onward, there is a probability of heavy rain in mountainous areas from Miaoli to Changhua, Nantou and north of Hsinchu. Lightning and strong gusts should be noted, with precautions advised for landslides, falling rocks, flash floods in mountainous areas, and potential water accumulation in low-lying areas. The regions at risk of heavy rain include: Taitung County, Pingtung County, and Kaohsiung City.
The Central Weather Bureau has issued a strong wind advisory for land areas due to the influence of the typhoon and its outer circulation. From today until the morning of July 7th, there is a probability of average winds of level 9 or above and gusts of level 11 or above in local areas of Changhua County, Yunlin County, Chiayi County, Tainan City, and Penghu County (indicated by an orange warning signal). There is also a probability of average winds of level 6 or above and gusts of level 8 or above in local areas of Keelung City, New Taipei City, Miaoli County, Taichung City, Nantou County, Chiayi City, Kaohsiung City, Pingtung County, Yilan County, Hualien County, Taitung County (including Orchid Island and Green Island), Kinmen County, and Lienchiang County (indicated by a yellow warning signal). Precautions should be taken.
Additionally, the Central Weather Bureau reminds that coastal winds and waves near Taiwan will rise to 3 to 4 meters with long waves, particularly in southwest Taiwan and the coastal areas of Penghu where wave heights may exceed 5 to 6 meters. It is advised to avoid seaside activities. Outdoor items such as hanging objects, signs, fences, and scaffolding should be secured, and potted plants on balconies should be placed safely.
From 00:00 on July 5th to 9:00 on July 6th, there has been a significant accumulation of rainfall in certain areas, such as 349 millimeters in Mudan of Pingtung County and 347.5 millimeters in Shouka of Taitung County.
