A netizen posted a video on social media claiming to have found a hidden camera inside a trash can in the library restroom at the university.
The video shows the netizen discovering a suspicious small hole dug at the bottom of the trash can while using the restroom. Upon further investigation, the netizen removed a black plastic bag from the trash can and found a hidden camera inside. When the netizen took out the camera from the trash can, it emitted a bright light, indicating that the camera was recording.
The incident, once exposed, quickly raised concerns among the public about privacy and security. Netizens expressed their shock, with comments such as, “This is terrifying,” “Whoever did this should be fired. Installing a camera is not just a simple peeping behavior, this guy probably took the footage to sell for money,” and “This makes me cautious, are there similar incidents at other universities?”
On September 23, Dahe News contacted the university regarding the incident. The university’s security office staff responded, saying they were “not convenient to answer.” A teacher from the university’s Party and Government Affairs Office mentioned that the related issues were handled by the school’s publicity department. When asked if the incident had been reported to the police, the university’s Party Committee Propaganda Department responded with a counter-question, “Why report to the police for this?”
