International Dragon Boat Invitation Competition “Dress Up Contest” Breast Cancer Survivor Takes the Crown

In the Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Invitational Races held by the sea in Tsim Sha Tsui, the event entered its second day. On the 16th, one of the highlights of the competition was the “Fancy Dress Competition,” where participating teams dressed up in unique and quirky costumes such as durian, various fruits, clowns, characters from “Pokemon,” “Dragon Ball,” “ONE PIECE,” “Journey to the West,” and more. The “Fancy Dress Competition” was ultimately won by “Hong Kong Dragons,” a dragon boat team comprised of breast cancer survivors, who dressed up as clowns.

Members of the “Hong Kong Dragons” expressed their hope to spread happiness and positive energy, urging the public to cherish life.

The “Hong Kong Dragons” had participated in various events of the Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Invitational Races under the team name since 2010. Earlier, when interviewed by the media, Liang Zhikun, who coached the “Hong Kong Dragons,” mentioned that physical fitness was the team members’ biggest limitation, especially since breast cancer survivors are prone to upper limb lymphedema after surgery. However, medical studies show that dragon boat racing, which emphasizes upper body strength, effectively alleviates the side effects of lymphedema and strengthens muscles, with positive effects on preventing a relapse.

The 16th also marked the final day of the invitational races, which ran from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Apart from the “Fancy Dress Competition,” there were 35 other events, including the finals of the Greater Bay Area Championship, the 18 Districts Cup, and the Mixed Championship.
