On April 27, Qinzhou City in Guangxi Province experienced the most intense daily rainfall in nearly a decade.
According to the latest rainfall information released by the Qinzhou Meteorological Observatory, in the past 3 hours, rainfall at multiple stations in Qinzhou exceeded 100 millimeters. In Jilong Town, the rainfall reached a staggering 246.2 millimeters, reaching the level of extraordinary torrential rain.
Due to the torrential rain and flooding, multiple roads in the urban area of Qinzhou City were severely flooded, causing almost complete paralysis of traffic.
Videos circulating on social media and eyewitness accounts described how various roads and parking lots in the city had turned into “water worlds.” In some low-lying sections of main streets and roads in the urban area, the water level had exceeded adult knee height, with several private cars parked by the roadside or in parking lots submerged up to their doors or even windows. Some underground parking lots experienced backflow.
The Qinzhou City Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters issued a statement on the day, announcing that the Qinzhou City Meteorological Department initiated a Level 2 emergency response to the severe meteorological disaster (torrential rain) at 8 a.m. and activated a Level 3 flood control emergency response at 9 a.m.
Colleagues from the Qinzhou City Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters office issued a “Safety Tips for Traveling in Severe Rainy Weather.” The safety tips emphasized that due to the impact of the most intense daily rainfall in nearly a decade, some areas in the city had experienced flooding and dangerous situations, posing significant safety risks to travel.
