Three Officials in Inner Mongolia Fall on the Same Day, Previously Promoted by Hu Chunhua

Three officials, Wang Wangsheng, Tan Jingfeng, and Wei Daiqing from Inner Mongolia, were officially announced to have been taken down on April 29, 2026. All three individuals had previously worked within the Inner Mongolia Communist Youth League system and were promoted during the tenure of the influential party member Hu Chunhua in Inner Mongolia.

On April 29, 2026, the official website of the CCP Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervision Commission reported based on information from the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision that Wang Wangsheng, the Secretary of the Hulunbuir City Committee of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Tan Jingfeng, former Party Secretary and Director of the Sports Bureau of the autonomous region, and Wei Daiqing, a member of the Party Committee and Deputy Director of the Ulanqab City People’s Congress Standing Committee, were under investigation.

According to their public profiles, Wang Wangsheng, born in March 1972 and of Mongolian ethnicity from Chaoyang, Liaoning, had held several positions in Inner Mongolia, including Deputy Secretary of the Alxa League Committee of the Autonomous Region and Secretary of the Political and Legal Committee, Secretary of the Left Banner Committee of Alxa League, Deputy Secretary of the Chifeng Municipal Committee, Mayor of Chifeng City, Party Secretary and Director of the Ecological Environment Department of the autonomous region, before assuming the role of Secretary of the Hulunbuir City Committee in August 2024.

Wei Daiqing, born in August 1968 and of Han ethnicity from Chehar Youyi Qian Banner in Inner Mongolia, had served as Deputy Secretary and County Magistrate of Liangcheng County Committee of the Autonomous Region, and Secretary of the Siziwang Banner Committee, among other positions.

Tan Jingfeng, born in September 1961 and of Han ethnicity from Tuquan County in Inner Mongolia, had held roles such as Executive Deputy Secretary of the Political and Legal Committee of the Hinggan League, Member and Secretary of the Political and Legal Committee of the Alxa League Committee, and Deputy Secretary and Minister of the Organization Department of the Alxa League Committee.

The profiles of these three officials who have been implicated in wrongdoing show that they have had long careers within the Inner Mongolia political scene, with early roles in the Communist Youth League system. Wang Wangsheng had served as Secretary of the E’ergetu Sumu Committee of the Kezuohou Banner in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region from March 1995 to October 1996. Wei Daiqing had been Deputy Secretary and Secretary of the Chayou Banner Committee of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region from May 1992 to September 1994. Tan Jingfeng had served as Deputy Secretary and Secretary of the Tuquan County Committee in Inner Mongolia from December 1982 to October 1990.

During Hu Chunhua’s tenure as the Party Secretary of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region from November 2009 to November 2012, Wang Wangsheng was promoted to Deputy Secretary and Party Committee Member of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Committee of the Communist Youth League in September 2010, and to Deputy Governor of the Alxa League Administrative Office in August 2012. Wei Daiqing was appointed as a Standing Committee Member of the Siziwang Banner Committee and Deputy Chief of the Government in September 2010, and as Deputy Secretary of the Huade County Committee in December 2011. Tan Jingfeng was promoted to Deputy Director and Party Committee Member of the Development and Reform Commission of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in July 2011, and served as the Director of the Leading Group Office for the Construction of the Lingang Industrial Park and Port Development in the autonomous region (at the level of department head).

Hu Chunhua was elevated to the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China during the 18th National Congress, concurrently serving as the Party Secretary of Guangdong Province. After the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, he was appointed as Vice Premier of the State Council in Beijing. He had been widely regarded as the designated ‘successor’ by the former top leader of the CCP, Hu Jintao.

However, during the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the Youth League faction was purged, leading to Hu Chunhua’s removal from the Political Bureau and his transfer to Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. In recent years, officials who had been promoted and trusted by Hu Chunhua have been purged from the political scenes of Tibet, Inner Mongolia, and Guangdong Province where he had held leadership positions.

His former deputy and colleague, Ma Xingrui, former Governor of Guangdong Province and a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China, was also announced to have been taken down on April 3, 2026. Observers speculate that the case of Ma Xingrui might implicate more individuals, possibly even leading to repercussions for Hu Chunhua, and high-level figures like Li Xi, who had previously overseen Guangdong.

From April 2 to April 16, 2026, within a span of two weeks, Cai Jiahua, a former Level 1 Inspector in Dongguan City, Guangdong Province, Ding Yexian, former Deputy Director of the Tibet People’s Congress Standing Committee, and Xiao Chuanjiang, former Deputy Director of the Propaganda Department of the Tibet Party Committee, were all subject to investigation. These three individuals were all former associates of Hu Chunhua in Guangdong and Tibet; notably, Xiao Chuanjiang hailed from the same province as Hu Chunhua, Hubei.
