Mexico City recently hosted a large-scale soccer course that attracted nearly ten thousand people, successfully breaking the Guinness World Record for the “largest soccer class globally.”
The event took place on March 15th at the iconic Constitution Square (Zócalo) in Mexico City, with approximately 9500 participants of different age groups holding soccer balls, lined up neatly, and engaging in basic soccer training under the guidance of professional coaches, including passing, dribbling, and ball control, for about 40 minutes. The entire square resembled a huge outdoor soccer training ground, creating a spectacular scene.
Guinness World Record official Alfredo Arista Rueda formally announced the birth of this new record at the event. The crowd erupted in cheers and joy, throwing colorful confetti into the air, elevating the atmosphere to a climax.
Organizers mentioned that this soccer course successfully surpassed the previous Guinness World Record of 1038 participants practicing on the same field set by Seattle, USA in June 2025.
It is understood that this event is one of a series of activities hosted by Mexico in preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The 2026 World Cup is scheduled to take place from June 11th to July 19th and will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, with Mexico City hosting the opening match.
