Preparing two dishes to impress Wallace Huo, Ruby Lin: He is quite easy to please

Actress Ruby Lin, who will turn 50 at the end of the month, recently celebrated her husband Wallace Huo’s birthday by cooking braised pork elbows for him. The family enjoyed the meal together, with Lin personally preparing the dish. She mentioned at a brand event on January 13 that during the pandemic, she learned to cook because she didn’t want to order takeout every day. Lin shared that Huo is not picky when it comes to food, as he enjoys dishes like dried bean curd with shredded pork and tomato scrambled eggs without getting tired of them. This led her to praise him, saying, “He’s quite easy to please.”

Lin and Huo have been married for 9 years and have a daughter together. Despite Lin’s busy schedule, she recently posted a photo on IG of the braised pork elbows she cooked for Huo’s birthday, showcasing their sweet interaction and drawing admiration from many fans.

On the 13th, Lin revealed at a brand event that when Huo’s birthday month arrived, he expressed a preference for not dining out. As a result, the family of three had a simple celebration at home. In addition to the braised pork elbows, Lin also cooked Three Cup Chicken, which Huo praised as “delicious.” The birthday cake featured a “Snow White” design chosen by their daughter, prompting Lin to humorously remark, “Although it was chosen by our daughter, it’s actually dad’s birthday cake.”

Lin mentioned that she truly began to learn cooking during the pandemic. Unable to go out and finding it inconvenient to order takeout, she dedicated herself to honing her cooking skills. Huo’s favorite dishes that she makes are dried bean curd with shredded pork and tomato scrambled eggs. Lin shared that he can eat the same thing every day without getting bored, leading her to affectionately say, “He’s quite easy to please.” Their daughter also loves her fried rice, stir-fried udon noodles, paired with a seaweed egg flower soup.

When asked about her upcoming birthday on the 27th of this month, and whether Huo will reciprocate by cooking soup or braised pork elbows, Lin chuckled and jokingly said, “He said when he was single, he could only make dumplings and instant noodles.” After years of marriage, she humorously added, “I have never tried his cooking, and he doesn’t need to cook either,” teasing Huo by saying, “He only helped me pour water.”

As for her birthday plans, Lin mischievously called out to the camera saying, “No one has made plans with me yet,” hinting to her friends to quickly invite her for her birthday. She mentioned that the family has been extremely busy until the end of the year, celebrating Huo and their daughter’s birthdays consecutively before it’s finally her turn. Lin expressed that she used to love celebrating her birthday, but after having a child, she lost some interest in her own birthday. She typically just dines with close friends in the neighborhood, and a few times Huo helped organize her birthday parties.

While the birthday party details are not set in stone, Lin is most looking forward to the little surprises her daughter will prepare for her. She shared that as her daughter grows older, she becomes more thoughtful, taking the initiative to write cards and create handmade gifts. Lin expressed how her daughter now has a whole box of things she has given her. One of the most touching gifts was a small jar filled with hand-folded paper stars, accompanied by little notes filled with children’s words and illustrations. When asked if she was moved to tears, Lin chuckled and shook her head, explaining that she couldn’t quite decipher what her daughter had written.
