Two senior Chinese Communist Party officials Zhao Ming and Du Pingtai were announced to be investigated on the same day.

On April 18, Zhao Ming, the Party Secretary and Chairman of the Jilin Provincial Federation of Literary and Art Circles, as well as Du Pingtai, the former Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of Hefei City, Anhui Province, were investigated.

According to the Jilin Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection, Zhao Ming is suspected of serious violations of discipline and law and is currently under review for investigation.

The 57-year-old Zhao Ming has a long history of working in Changchun. He has held positions such as Deputy Director of the Changchun Municipal Party Committee Office, Deputy Secretary-General of the Changchun Municipal Party Committee, member of the Changchun Municipal Party Committee, Minister of Propaganda Department, and was elected Deputy Secretary of the Changchun Municipal Party Committee in December 2021, while continuing to serve as Minister of the Party Committee’s Propaganda Department. Reports in January 2024 indicated that Zhao Ming had been appointed as the Party Secretary and Chairman of the Jilin Provincial Federation of Literary and Art Circles, only to be investigated at this juncture.

According to Caixin, Zhao Ming is the third Deputy Secretary of the Changchun Municipal Party Committee to be investigated after Yang Ziming fell from grace on February 25, 2019, following Gao Yulong in September 20, 2022, and Jiang Baozhong on January 2, 2025.

In addition, according to the Anhui Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection, on April 18, Du Pingtai, 72, former Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of Hefei City, Anhui Province, is also under review and investigation for suspected serious violations of discipline and law.

Du Pingtai, a native of Dingyuan, Anhui, has long been working in Hefei City. He has held positions such as Secretary of the Party Working Committee and Director of the Management Committee of the Hefei Economic and Technological Development Zone, member of the Hefei Municipal Party Committee, and Deputy Mayor. In 2012, he was appointed as Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of Hefei City.
