The United States-Iran war has now entered its 7th day this Friday, March 6. Since the outbreak of the war, gasoline and oil prices have been fluctuating. Gas station prices in the tri-state area around New York City have been continuously rising.
According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), as of Friday morning, gasoline prices in the tri-state area have once again increased overnight. Prices rose by 6 cents in New York State, 7 cents in New Jersey, 6 cents in Connecticut, and the national average increased by 7 cents.
Over the past week, gasoline prices in New York State have risen by 22 cents, 29 cents in New Jersey, and 26 cents in Connecticut.
AAA reports that attacks by Iran on oil and natural gas infrastructure, including Saudi Arabia’s largest oil refinery, have heightened concerns about oil and gas production and supply.
AAA has shared some tips to help drivers save on gasoline costs, including comparing prices at different stations to find the best deal. They also advise against waiting until the tank is completely empty before refueling, as that may lead to refueling at more expensive stations typically found at rest stops or along highways.
Furthermore, it is recommended to slow down. Once your speed exceeds 50 miles per hour, air resistance causes fuel economy to decline.
Moreover, it is important to understand the type of fuel your vehicle truly needs. AAA’s research indicates that unless the vehicle manufacturer recommends or requires the use of premium fuel, using premium fuel does not provide any benefits.
Lastly, many gas stations offer discounted prices for drivers who use their mobile apps or participate in other reward programs.
