Florida authorities have announced that a man from New York is suspected of credit card fraud and retail theft at multiple high-end retailers in South Florida, with the amount involved exceeding $90,000. The 43-year-old Chinese national, Jian Chuan Weng, is said to have committed the crimes at luxury brand stores including Louis Vuitton and Tiffany & Co. between December of last year and January of this year. Investigators stated that he used fraudulently obtained bank debit card and electronic payment information to make multiple high-value purchases.
One victim reported unauthorized transactions totaling approximately $86,000 on their debit card, with purchases made at various Louis Vuitton stores in locations such as Miami. Authorities also found that the personal information of two other victims was stolen and used for thousands of dollars worth of shopping transactions.
Authorities were able to identify the suspect through surveillance footage and discovered him driving a white Nissan Rogue with New York license plates. On March 3rd, the police pulled over the vehicle for running a red light and having illegally altered license plates, leading to Weng’s arrest. Currently, Weng is facing 20 felony charges, including grand theft and fraud.
