Curtis International, headquartered in Canada, has announced a recall of 330,000 units of another model of mini refrigerators on Thursday, January 15th, following last year’s recall of about 634,000 units due to a fire incident. The total number of Frigidaire brand products recalled in the United States now reaches approximately 964,000.
The notification issued by the Consumer Product Safety Commission in the United States reveals that the recalled refrigerators have a risk of short circuit in their electronic components, which could result in plastic burning inside the refrigerator, leading to a fire and potential burns to users.
So far, the agency has received reports of six fire incidents causing property damage related to these products.
The model of the Frigidaire mini refrigerators being recalled this time is EFMIS121, sold exclusively at Target stores both physically and online. These refrigerators were manufactured between January 2020 and December 2023, with a retail price of around $30.
Last year’s recalled 634,000 units of mini refrigerators included models EFMIS129, EFMIS137, EFMIS149, and EFMIS175, sold at retailers like Walmart and Amazon, priced between $36 and $40.
At that time, an additional 26 incidents of products overheating, melting, or catching fire were reported, along with two cases of injuries from inhaling smoke related to these incidents.
Users of the recalled mini refrigerators are advised to immediately stop using them and visit the Curtis International website to learn how to apply for a refund.
Qualified consumers are instructed to cut the product’s power cord, mark the word “Recall” on the front door of the refrigerator with a marker, and send a photo to the company.
Curtis International holds licenses for the production and distribution of a range of consumer electronics and home appliances, including some Frigidaire products, with Frigidaire as a larger brand owned by the Swedish company Electrolux Group.
