Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is set to grant Italian citizenship to Argentine President Javier Milei, according to local Italian media reports.
Milei is expected to receive his citizenship on Friday night (December 13) and is scheduled to meet with Meloni at 6:30 p.m. local time. On Saturday, he will attend the annual gathering of the “Brothers of Italy” party led by Meloni, called the Atreju rally.
Reports state that Milei’s grandparents were Italians, and he will obtain citizenship through lineage rights. His grandparents moved from Calabria, southern Italy, to Argentina in 1926.
Simultaneously, his sister and chief advisor, Karina Milei, will also be granted Italian citizenship.
Aside from their shared Italian heritage, the two leaders are also close ideological allies. Recently, Milei gifted Meloni a unique present: a statue of himself holding a chainsaw.
