On December 8, starting from noon until 6 p.m., vehicles will be prohibited from passing through Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue, with the stretch from 48th Street to 55th Street open only to pedestrians. This celebration marks over two centuries of the street’s iconic status as one of the most popular in New York City. During this period, visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy shopping, dining, and live entertainment performances along Fifth Avenue.
A variety of brands including Aritzia, Citizen, Longchamp, Puma, Tiffany, amongst others, will be launching flash events. Shoppers can also indulge in a wide array of food and drinks from brands like Grey’s Donuts, Mao’s Bao, Nuchas, Pizza Passeggio, and Tang Hulu.
Choirs and dancers from various parts of New York City will be performing on the steps of the renowned St. Patrick’s Cathedral along with accompanying visitors on leisurely strolls along Fifth Avenue.
The streets developed into the thriving luxury shopping district we know today with the completion of the Lord & Taylor Building in 1914, followed by the opening of Bergdorf Goodman in 1928.
In recent years, Fifth Avenue has become a venue for some of New York City’s most popular parades. The festive displays of storefronts and the Rockefeller Christmas Tree have turned it into a major tourist attraction along Fifth Avenue, as well as one of the most filmed locations in the city.
