8th Middle School of Kashgar, Xinjiang, Stampede Accident: 3 seriously injured, 11 lightly injured.

On Monday afternoon (November 18th), a stampede incident occurred at the 8th Middle School in Kashgar, Xinjiang, with at least 3 people seriously injured and 11 people lightly injured.

According to a report from the WeChat official account “Kashgar Zero Distance,” around 3:25 p.m. on November 18th, students from the 5th dormitory building (boys’ dormitory) at the 8th Middle School in Kashgar were heading to class in the teaching building when one student accidentally fell in front of the first floor of the dormitory building, triggering the stampede. This resulted in 3 serious injuries, who are currently receiving treatment, and 11 minor injuries being kept for observation in the hospital.

Currently, the injured are being treated and investigations into the cause of the accident are underway.

Internet users with IP addresses in Xinjiang commented, “According to our usual schedule here, there should have been 5 more minutes before the bell rings, so some of the dormitory students who were late would just be leaving the dormitory to rush to the teaching building.”

Another internet user expressed, “This is all because the dormitory building’s door wasn’t opened at first. The students crowded on the stairs, and just a few minutes before class started, they opened the dormitory building’s door, causing all the students to rush down. It’s very easy for a stampede to occur. Back in my high school days, it was the same, with several stampede incidents happening.”

The stampede incident at the 8th Middle School in Kashgar has raised concerns about the safety and management of school facilities and students’ schedules. It highlights the importance of ensuring orderly movement of students within school premises to prevent such tragic accidents from happening again. The authorities are urged to thoroughly investigate the incident and take necessary measures to improve safety protocols in schools.

Stampedes in crowded places can have devastating consequences, and it is crucial for educational institutions and authorities to prioritize the safety and well-being of students. Adequate measures should be implemented to prevent overcrowding and ensure a smooth flow of movement during peak times such as class transitions. Education officials and school administrators should work together to address any lapses in safety protocols and prevent similar incidents in the future.

The incident serves as a reminder for schools across the region and beyond to review their safety procedures and make necessary adjustments to prevent accidents and ensure the well-being of students. Collaborative efforts between school officials, local authorities, and the community are essential in creating a safe and secure learning environment for students.
