In May this year, a primary school student in Ju County, Shandong Province, suffered a broken clavicle after being kicked by a PE teacher for being overweight and a bit slow in jumping rope. It took four months for the teacher involved to be suspended.
According to a report by “Huashang Newspaper,” on September 12, a parent in Ju County, Rizhao City, Shandong Province confirmed that their son’s injury was assessed as a Grade 2 minor injury.
The incident happened on May 11 during a physical education class at the Zhongxin Primary School in Liuguanzhuang Town, Ju County, Rizhao City, where the parent’s son was a student.
“Why was this teacher so ruthless? Just because my son is a bit overweight and was a little slow in jumping rope, he kicked him in the neck, resulting in a broken clavicle for the child. When the child was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment of the wound, a clear shoe print could still be seen on his neck,” the parent said.
The parent showed pictures taken at the hospital, stating, “For over two months after the incident, both my husband and I have been by our child’s side in the hospital. The doctor said the injury to our child’s upper body shoulder is severe, and he must not move or turn over. We took turns watching over him day and night, as our son lay in bed in pain unable to sleep.”
After the incident, the parent reported the incident to the police, stating, “An injury assessment has been conducted, determining it as a Grade 2 minor injury, however, law enforcement has not taken any measures against the PE teacher.”
According to the identification report by the Technical Squadron of the Criminal Investigation Brigade of the Public Security Bureau of Ju County, on June 6, examination revealed a 3.4cm long oblique surgical wound in the middle of the left clavicle and a 1.2cm long oblique surgical wound at the left chest clavicle joint, both resulting from surgery. The analysis of the damage characteristics is consistent with injuries caused by blunt external force.
The parent mentioned that after the incident, they asked the school to handle the teacher who committed assault. “Jia, who is the director of the moral education department and also a PE teacher, has not faced any disciplinary action by the school due to the reason that they have not found a replacement teacher.” “The child’s homeroom teacher is the sister of the assaulting teacher, and immediately after the incident, she warned the students not to say anything at home and to mind their own business.”
On September 14, the reporter contacted Zhongxin Primary School in Liuguanzhuang Town, Ju County. The office staff responded, “I am not very aware of this matter, you should inquire with the leader directly.” When asked if Teacher Jia was present at the school, the staff said they were unclear.
On the same day, the reporter received a response from the Ju County Education Bureau, stating that the PE teacher involved had been suspended.
The reporter also contacted the Liuguanzhuang Police Station on the same day, where the investigating police officer stated that they couldn’t disclose information and advised contacting the county’s Publicity Department. When asked if any measures were taken against the teacher involved due to the Grade 2 minor injury, the police officer mentioned they couldn’t provide that information.
