Recently, some Android users have reported receiving prompts that their pictures and videos were being abnormally deleted while using the Meituan app. The topic of “Meituan deleting photos” suddenly trended on Weibo, sparking heated discussions. Meituan customer service responded that a system conflict caused the abnormal cleanup.
Several Weibo users have recently provided feedback that without executing any operations, hundreds to thousands of photos and videos in their phone albums were automatically cleared, and the system interception log showed that the Meituan app was the one executing the deletion operation.
Some Android users online also reflected that while using the Meituan app for ordering food or browsing, their phone systems suddenly popped up security alerts, indicating that “Meituan” had deleted photos and videos.
The incident quickly escalated, drawing public attention. Some users mentioned that photos, short videos, and even audio files in their albums were subject to “batch-style” deletion, ranging from a few dozen to thousands of pictures lost.
“For example, yesterday afternoon I ordered two takeaway meals on Meituan. In between, my phone’s security alert warned me that a third-party platform deleted my photos (I thought it was nothing serious). After ordering the food, I checked my album, and bam, nearly a thousand photos I saved were all moved to the recycle bin,” a user posted on Xiaohongshu on March 20.
In response, on March 24, Jiemian News reported that Meituan’s official customer service stated that this issue was mainly due to the Android system encountering abnormal situations caused by conflicts with third-party SDKs during automatic app cache cleanup in extremely rare cases. As of now, more than 180 users have inquired with customer service, with an estimated potential impact on hundreds of users. Meituan has immediately carried out emergency repairs upon discovering the issue. Currently, customer service has apologized to each affected user and will bear all costs and compensate for corresponding losses.
According to Da Xiang News, they contacted Meituan customer service on March 24 for consultation. The customer service stated that under the Android system version, a third-party plugin malfunction caused this issue, and it has now been urgently repaired. Users whose photos were deleted are advised to check the album’s recycle bin and click restore for recovery.
