On March 19, a chemical plant in Tengger Industrial Park in Alxa League, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, experienced an explosion. The incident has resulted in 2 people missing, 3 injured, and reports of 17 people sustaining minor injuries. Videos from the scene show significant yellow smoke billowing out.
According to official Chinese state media Xinhua News Agency, authorities in Alxa League received information that an explosion occurred in the nitration workshop of Inner Mongolia Liyuan Technology Co., Ltd at 11:49 on March 19. Preliminary verification revealed 2 missing persons and 3 injured individuals, with the exact circumstances still under investigation.
Reportedly by the Beijing News, multiple shop owners near the site of the incident stated that their shops suffered varying degrees of damage. “I was right there when it happened, it was really frightening,” said one shop owner whose store shelves were shaken, causing 6 bottles of liquor to fall off, and the ceiling to collapse. As of around 3 p.m. on March 19, it was reported that 17 individuals with minor injuries during the incident had been treated at the hospital and discharged.
Officials from the government of Tengger Eerqi Town where the factory of Inner Mongolia Liyuan Technology Co., Ltd is located, told “Jiemian News” that the explosion has not significantly impacted the daily lives of local residents. However, some windows and doors were damaged by the shockwave from the explosion, with authorities currently assessing and compiling the extent of the situation.
The official website indicates that Inner Mongolia Liyuan Technology Co., Ltd was established in May 2014 with a registered capital of 300 million Chinese Yuan, jointly invested by four enterprises from Zhejiang and Hubei. The company’s main business activities include research, production, and sales of fine chemical products; research, production, and operation of chemical new materials; operation of chemical raw materials and chemical machinery and equipment; production and operation of hydrochloric acid and acetic acid; and chemical economic and technical consulting services. The company currently employs over 750 workers.
Information from “Tianyancha APP” shows that the registering authority for Inner Mongolia Liyuan Technology Co., Ltd is the Administrative Approval and Public Service Bureau of Alxa Left Banner Ecological Migration Demonstration Zone.
