In a rare spectacle, a woman in the Divide area of Colorado, USA captured footage of a “snow tornado”, which appeared as white smoke swirling around. However, it was not smoke but a rare phenomenon formed by wind and snow, known as a snow tornado, similar to a “dust devil” in a sandstorm.
The woman, Mandy Campbell, shared the video of the snow tornado on the Woodland Park Facebook group. She wrote in her post, “Have you ever seen a snow tornado? I saw it for the first time just now! I was so fascinated at the moment that I only started recording towards the end. The snow tornado lasted quite a while.”
The National Weather Service confirmed that a snow tornado did occur in the area on Tuesday night, February 3rd.
Sydney Jackson, the chief meteorologist at KKTV 11 News, mentioned that such a sight is extremely rare. She said, “We don’t always get to see such phenomena. You can think of it like a dust devil you might have seen before, except this time it’s in the Divide area and it’s a snow dust devil.”
Jackson also noted that the snow tornado was moving at a fast speed and was quite high.
This is not the first time such a phenomenon has been captured on camera. In a previous report by Epoch Times, a resident named Tom Ording Dahl filmed a snow tornado in the Skjåk area of Norway on March 1, 2016. The snow tornado rose 50 to 100 meters into the air, continuously spinning for several minutes.
Initially mistaking the swirling snow for smoke from a nearby house fire due to its appearance from a distance, Dahl was amazed by the sight. He described it as a display of powerful forces, serving as a reminder that nature is the ultimate authority, not humans.
