Costco in the US Recalls Berneini Cakes with Unspecified Allergens in the Filling

Costco Recalls Mini Hazelnut Beignets for Undeclared Allergen

Costco has issued a recall for mini hazelnut beignets because some packages may contain hazelnut chocolate filling instead of the advertised caramel filling, and the packaging failed to list nuts as an allergen. The affected product is the mini hazelnut beignets (product number #1181272) sold by Costco.

According to the recall notice, some boxes of mini hazelnut beignets were inadvertently mixed with hazelnut chocolate filling, which led to the failure to declare nuts as an allergen on the label. For individuals allergic to hazelnuts or with severe sensitivity, consuming this product could pose a serious, even life-threatening risk of allergic reaction.

The affected mini hazelnut beignets were sold at Costco stores in 23 states from January 16 to 30, 2026. These states include Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington.

Food Allergy Research and Education reports that nut allergies are common among both children and adults. The organization states that the most common allergens in nut allergies are walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, pecans, cashews, and pistachios.

Costco has expressed its apologies for any inconvenience caused by the recall and encourages customers who have purchased the affected product to return it for a full refund.
