Two Random Stabbing Incidents Occur in Zhuhai, Details of Casualties Unknown

On the occasion of the first anniversary of the tragic incident of a car hitting people at the Zhuhai Sports Center in Guangdong, two more street stabbings occurred in Zhuhai, with the exact number of casualties unknown.

A viral video shows that on the evening of November 17, near the Gongbei Port in Xiangzhou District of Zhuhai, a man stabbed pedestrians with a knife and was eventually subdued by multiple security guards.

According to a witness who posted online, she encountered a man randomly stabbing people in Gongbei, causing her to flee frantically amidst the crowd in high heels, experiencing the feeling of a narrow escape for the first time.

On November 18, the Zhuhai police reported that at 20:29 on November 17, they received a report from the public that a man was injuring people with a small knife near Yingbin South Road in Xiangzhou District. After receiving the report, the police rushed to the scene and captured the suspect, a 48-year-old man named Lin.

The report stated, “Two people at the scene suffered minor injuries and have been sent for medical treatment.” It was also mentioned that “Lin has a history of multiple visits for mental health disorders.”

However, according to local netizens, four or five people were stabbed, with some even having their necks “slashed”. A netizen who claimed to have watched the original video said, “It feels very serious, the stabbings are severe.”

Some netizens questioned, “Why aren’t mentally ill patients in mental hospitals? Is it just an excuse when something happens?”

This is the second knife attack incident to occur this month.

A video shows that on the evening of November 5, also on the streets of Gongbei in Zhuhai, a man wearing a black short-sleeved shirt walked down the street with a knife while shouting loudly, causing pedestrians to scatter in fear.

Another video shows the man rushing into a VIVO mobile phone store, where staff and customers hid on the other side of the store in fear. After venting his anger, as the man was about to walk out of the store, he was opportunistically brought down by a man in red, and was later handcuffed by the police who arrived at the scene.

Currently, the cause of the incidents is unclear, and the details of casualties are unknown. As of the time of writing, the Chinese authorities have not issued any relevant reports.

In recent years, with the rapid economic decline in China, the lives of the lower-class people have become difficult, leading to immense pressure, and incidents of random violence have become more frequent across the country.

On November 11 last year, a indiscriminate car-ramming incident occurred at the Zhuhai Sports Center in Guangdong, officially reported to have caused 35 deaths and 43 injuries; on November 21, on Yuehua Road in Gongbei, Zhuhai, a car suddenly accelerated and hit pedestrians crossing the zebra crossing, injuring at least two people with casualties unknown.

Netizens expressed their concerns, stating, “It’s Zhuhai again”, “Previously there was also a car hitting incident in Zhuhai”, “It’s too terrifying.”
