On October 28, 2025, in Tokyo, Japan, President Trump gave a speech to business leaders and had dinner with them. He praised the strong friendship between the United States and Japan, promising Japanese companies that investing in the U.S. would not disappoint them.
“We are accelerating the construction of artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure and relocating the production of key chips and semiconductors back to the country,” the President stated in his speech.
He further lauded the “friendship” between the U.S. and Japan, expressing confidence in its strength and growth. Trump said, “Tonight, more than ever before, I am confident that the friendship between the U.S. and Japan is solid, extremely solid. Moreover, this friendship is flourishing and will soon be stronger than ever before.”
President Trump also mentioned, “Based on the historic trade agreement I signed today with Japanese Prime Minister Koichi Sanae and the private sector agreement just signed, we will significantly increase bilateral trade. Japan will invest $550 billion in the U.S.”
During the announcement ceremony of agreements with business leaders, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Lutnick stated, “I am proud to announce that tonight we will sign investment agreements worth $490 billion.” These commitments ensure the economic and national security of the U.S., as we will develop energy, nuclear power, semiconductors, and strengthen the entire domestic supply chain.
Trump had dinner with business leaders including Salesforce Inc. founder Marc Benioff, Apple CEO Tim Cook, and Rakuten Group Inc. founder and CEO Hiroshi Mikitani.
The President seized the opportunity to attract Japanese businessmen to invest in the U.S., saying, “You have great companies – you are amazing business talents.” He added, “The U.S. will not disappoint you.”
The dinner took place at the residence of U.S. Ambassador to Japan George Glass. According to Bloomberg, the entrepreneurs expected to attend the dinner also included OpenAI Inc. co-founder Greg Brockman, Toshiba Group CEO Taro Shimada, SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son, Honda Motor Company President Toshihiro Mibe, and Anduril Industries Inc. founder Palmer Luckey.
At the start of the event, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Lutnick announced a series of new potential investments from Japan into American projects for the second time that day.
In his speech to business leaders, Trump also mentioned the upcoming Trump-Xi meeting in South Korea, expressing optimism about the conference.
The President also announced that he would meet with Nvidia CEO Huang Renxun on Wednesday, October 29.
