Trump: Ceasefire agreement in Gaza still valid, Israel has the right to self-defense.

On Wednesday, October 29, 2025, President Trump stated that the ceasefire agreement in Gaza supported by the Trump administration remains in effect following Israel’s retaliation against Hamas attacks.

After three weeks of the Gaza ceasefire agreement brokered by Trump, the latest conflict erupted between Israel and Hamas. Following the death of an Israeli soldier, Israel launched a strong strike against Hamas.

Israel accused the terrorist organization Hamas of violating the ceasefire agreement by attacking Israeli soldiers in the southern Rafah area of Gaza on Tuesday and conducting airstrikes on Gaza. The Gaza health authorities controlled by Hamas reported that the airstrikes resulted in at least 26 deaths.

President Trump responded to questions from reporters aboard Air Force One on Wednesday, saying, “As far as I know, they (Hamas) killed an Israeli soldier, so the Israelis retaliated. It’s appropriate to strike back in this situation.”

The Israeli military confirmed on Wednesday that the soldier attacked by Hamas had died.

President Trump added, “Nothing can jeopardize the ceasefire agreement. You should know that Hamas plays only a small part in the Middle East peace process; they must follow the rules.”

On Tuesday evening, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu stated in a press release that he had ordered an immediate “strong strike”.

An Israeli military official revealed that Hamas had attacked Israeli forces stationed within the agreed-upon deployment line, violating the ceasefire agreement.

The ceasefire agreement mediated by the Trump administration took effect on October 10, ending a two-year conflict between Israel and Hamas that began with a terrorist attack launched by Hamas militants on October 7, 2023.

Trump said, “If they (Hamas) behave well, everything will be fine; if they break the rules, they will be eliminated, and their lives will end.”

“No one knows the details of the attack on the Israeli soldiers, but it is reportedly due to sniper fire. This action is retaliation by the Israeli military, and I believe they have the right to do so.”

Hamas denied responsibility for the attack on Israeli soldiers in the southern Rafah area of Gaza and stated in a press release that they are still adhering to the ceasefire agreement.
