On November 13, the topic labeled as “Delivery man mistakenly delivers package and is stabbed to death on the spot” and “A man in Jiangsu killed a delivery man due to delayed delivery” surged to the top two spots on Weibo’s trending list.
Suzhou resident Mr. Wang told Jiangxi Radio and Television Station’s “Heat News” on November 13 that his 30-year-old nephew, Xiao Li (alias), who worked as a delivery man at a Suzhou branch of China Post, was stabbed to death by the husband of the recipient during a dispute on the evening of October 17 while delivering a package.
According to reports, staff at the branch described to the family that around 7 p.m. on October 17, due to a deviation in the package’s location, Xiao Li delivered the package of the recipient, Ms. Wu (alias), to a location a few hundred meters away from Ms. Wu’s home.
After realizing the mistake in delivery location, Xiao Li tried to contact Ms. Wu multiple times without success, and eventually managed to speak with her husband as the delivery was delayed. Due to the delay, Ms. Wu, in an emotional state, rushed to the scene, leading to an argument during which her husband, losing control of his emotions, committed the violent act with a knife.
Witnesses at the scene immediately called the emergency services, but Xiao Li’s injuries were severe and he had lost too much blood, rendering the on-site rescue efforts futile.
On the morning of November 13, when “Heat News” inquired with the China Post branch where Xiao Li was associated with, the staff stated that since Xiao Li passed away at the scene, they were not clear about the events at that time. The officers who responded to the incident did not provide an explanation either.
This incident quickly gained strong attention online.
Netizens expressed their shock, with one saying, “This is too violent, to intentionally kill over a minor issue, the delivery man is too innocent.” Another commented, “I didn’t realize there was so much risk in the courier industry.”
However, there were also questions raised by netizens, “It has been almost a month, shouldn’t the company investigate the incident and handle the aftermath properly?”
Some netizens doubted the chain of events, highlighting gaps in the story and questioning the behavior of both the delivery man and the recipients involved.
