The founder of the Myanmar Myawaddy gambling group “Asia Pacific New City,” She Zhijiang, was extradited from Thailand to China yesterday (12th). She Zhijiang was arrested and imprisoned in Thailand, and he once revealed to the public that he was a former member of the Chinese Communist Party’s state security department, framed by the CCP. He also exposed the dark activities of Chinese spies in Southeast Asia.
According to reports from Thai media, on November 12th, the Thailand Royal Police Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) delivered She Zhijiang to the Bangkok airport, where he was handed over to the Chinese public security authorities. He faces charges of operating over 200 illegal online gambling sites.
Chinese state media reported on the morning of the 13th that one of the “top ten fugitives” in cross-border gambling, the head of the Myanmar Myawaddy “Asia Pacific New City” fraud and crime group, She Zhijiang, was extradited from Thailand back to China.
She Zhijiang, 43, also known as She Lunkai, is a Chinese citizen holding a Cambodian passport. In August 2022, Thai police arrested him based on an international arrest warrant requested by Beijing and a red notice from Interpol, accusing him of running illegal online gambling activities. He has been detained in a Thai prison since then.
In May 2024, the Thai Criminal Court ordered the extradition of She Zhijiang. After an appeal was filed, another court upheld the decision. On November 10th this year, the Thai Supreme Prosecution Office announced that She Zhijiang would be extradited to China within 90 days to “face trial for running illegal gambling operations.”
This extradition comes as the Thai King is set to visit China.
Thai officials confirmed to Reuters that it was at the request of the Chinese authorities to extradite the suspect.
She Zhijiang’s defense lawyer, Sang Ya, previously told Reuters that She Zhijiang denies all charges, claiming that the CCP’s accusations against him are politically motivated. Regarding the extradition, Sang Ya described the process as “unusual” but did not provide further details.
There have been reports alleging that She Zhijiang was one of the notorious backers of the Myanmar “KK Park.” In reality, he is the founder of another “Belt and Road” project adjacent to the KK Park, the “Myanmar Asia Pacific International Smart City” (referred to as “Asia Pacific New City”), and the owner of Asia Pacific International Holdings.
An informant once told the Epoch Times that although the Asia Pacific New City was involved in gambling, there was no telephone fraud. The Asia Pacific group mainly runs casinos, as well as numerous privately operated adult entertainment venues, farming and planting businesses, construction material companies, large shopping malls, luxury hotels, and money lenders all over the place.
In September 2023, She Zhijiang released a video through an intermediary while in prison, stating that he had served as the Vice President of the China Overseas Chinese Entrepreneurs Association and worked for the Chinese Communist Party’s state security department. He claimed that he was framed and politically persecuted by the CCP and might be abducted back to China for silence. She expressed regret for joining the CCP’s state security. China (CCP) just wants colonies, while he only wanted to do business.
In the documentary, She Zhijiang mentioned working as a spy for the Chinese Communist Party, recruited in late 2016 in the Philippines. He also claimed that a detained former Chinese-Filipino mayor of Banban City in Danlong Province, Philippines, Guo Huaping, also worked for the Chinese state security department.
According to reports, in November 2018, She Zhijiang was invited by the Philippines President Duterte to attend a welcome banquet for the CCP leader Xi Jinping.
