Hudson Yards’ gleaming landmark “The Vessel” will shine even brighter this winter than in previous years. Since its opening in 2019, The Vessel will host its own holiday lighting ceremony for the first time, scheduled for Monday, November 17th from 6:00 pm to 6:45 pm at the central Public Square and Gardens of Hudson Yards, open to the public free of charge.
This lighting ceremony symbolizes the official kickoff of Hudson Yard’s annual “Shine Bright” festival series, transforming the west side of Manhattan into a dazzling winter wonderland once again.
The ceremony will be hosted by 106.7 Lite FM radio host Helen Little and will feature performances such as Broadway musical star Kelsie Watts singing songs from her new album “Christmas in New York,” the award-winning Harlem Gospel Choir delivering soulful harmonies, the Orchestra of St. Luke’s brass ensemble playing classic Christmas tunes, and a surprise appearance by Eli the elephant, mascot of the New York Liberty basketball team.
On the evening of the event, approximately 2 million lights will be lit simultaneously, covering the entire square and gardens, including trees, terraces, and the 150-foot-tall main structure of The Vessel, creating the illusion of a giant golden Christmas ornament. Nestled in the center of a five-acre public square surrounded by gardens and trees, the scene is truly enchanting.
Designed by British architect Thomas Heatherwick, the landmark “The Vessel” stands 16 stories tall, with more than 150 flights of stairs, 2,500 steps, and 80 landings, making it an ideal stage for hosting festive light shows, according to many.
Since its opening, The Vessel has attracted millions of visitors, with Related Companies CEO Stephen Ross describing it as “a year-round Christmas tree” in the Hudson Yards development.
