Massachusetts Foxboro High School Student Elected Public School Committee Member.

On the evening of May 6th, an 18-year-old high school student was elected as a member of the Foxboro School Committee in Massachusetts, becoming its youngest member yet.

Nathan Urman, a student leader at his high school, won the position after several months of campaigning and will be involved in managing public school affairs.

In an interview with the media, Urman said that as class president, student council chair, and intern for Massachusetts Representative F. Jay Barrows, he hopes to continue giving back to the community.

“I believe that we are seeing more and more the younger generation stepping up in national politics. Not only did I participate in the elections, but I also saw some people who had never voted before in their lives casting their first vote in this election. So, it’s a great thing,” Urman said.

He mentioned that despite starting at Bentley University in the fall, he plans to attend all meetings during his 3-year term on the school committee. Currently, Urman will continue to complete his senior year studies and extracurricular activities in high school.

He acknowledged that not every 18-year-old wants to run for public office, but he wanted to convey a message to those who may see his story and want to get involved: “Make sure you understand what is happening in your town, and then work hard to make a change.”
