After Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takamichi made remarks regarding “Taiwan’s situation,” the Chinese Communist Party strongly retaliated, leading to a series of retaliatory measures and escalating tensions between the two countries. At the same time, the Chinese public hasn’t been entirely swayed by the CCP’s rhetoric. Recently, the Japanese chain restaurant brand called Sushiro opened two new stores simultaneously in Shanghai, with customers lining up for hours, with some waiting as long as 14 hours.
Sushiro, a chain conveyor belt sushi brand under the Japanese FOOD & LIFE Companies, entered Shanghai with the simultaneous opening of the “Sushiro Shanghai Global Harbor Store” and “Sushiro Zhongshan Park Long Dream Store.” According to Japanese media reports, on December 6th, these openings attracted a large number of people, with around 700 customer groups waiting in line that day. The longest waiting time reached 14 hours, and reservation slots were fully booked for up to a month ahead.
A female college student who dined at the Sushiro Global Harbor store in Shanghai mentioned that she was not particularly interested in politics. Having tried Sushiro during a previous trip to Japan, she specifically chose to visit on the opening day in Shanghai. A male customer expressed his fondness for the “tuna belly” served at Sushiro, stating that it was incredibly delicious, which explained the restaurant’s high popularity.
In 2021, Sushiro entered the Chinese market by opening its first store in Guangzhou, followed by expansions into Beijing, Suzhou, and other cities. As of now, the brand has a total of 71 stores in China. Sushiro’s menu in China starts from 10 yuan, offering consumers a variety of popular Japanese sushi dishes to enjoy.
