Former U.S. Vice President Cheney’s funeral to be held on the 20th

The funeral of the late American Vice President Dick Cheney will be held at the Washington National Cathedral on November 20th (next Thursday), with former President George W. Bush and former Congresswoman Liz Cheney delivering eulogies.

On November 3rd, former Vice President Cheney passed away at the age of 84 due to complications from pneumonia and cardiovascular diseases. His family announced the news on November 4th.

In a statement, his family said, “The 46th Vice President of the United States, Richard B. Cheney, passed away last night on November 3, 2025, at the age of 84. His beloved wife Lynne, daughters Liz and Mary, and other family members were by his side at the time of his passing.”

Cheney served as Vice President during two terms under President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2009. He was known as the mastermind behind the U.S. “War on Terror,” including the Iraq War and the Afghanistan War, making him one of the most powerful and controversial Vice Presidents in American history.

Shortly after Cheney’s death, George W. Bush wrote, “In times of significant national challenges, Dick remained calm and steady in the White House. I relied on his candid and straightforward advice, and he never failed to deliver. He stood firm in his beliefs, prioritizing the freedom and security of the American people.”

Cheney also supported his daughter, Congresswoman Liz Cheney of Wyoming, in staunchly opposing former President Trump’s efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. Liz Cheney serves as Vice Chair of the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th Capitol riot.

In her 2023 memoir, “Oath and Honor,” Liz Cheney wrote, “I watched my father serve in our nation’s highest offices for nearly 50 years. From him, I learned what courage in standing by convictions truly means.”

Longtime attending physician and cardiologist Jonathan Reiner, as well as Cheney’s former press secretary and spokesperson during his time in Congress and the Pentagon, Pete Williams, will also deliver eulogies at the funeral.
