China’s heavy industry conglomerate, former member of the Party Committee and deputy general manager of China First Heavy Industries Group Co., Ltd., Lu Wenjun, was recently arrested on suspicion of bribery.
According to an announcement on January 13th by the Supreme People’s Procuratorate of the Communist Party of China, Lu Wenjun’s case of alleged bribery has been transferred to the procuratorial organ for examination and prosecution. Recently, the Hunan Provincial People’s Procuratorate decided to arrest Lu Wenjun for the crime of bribery.
At the age of 58, Lu Wenjun has worked in China’s heavy machinery industry for over 30 years. Public records show that in 1990, Lu Wenjun joined China First Heavy Industries Group Co., Ltd. as a cadre in the mining equipment department. In 2000, he was promoted to the position of general manager of China First Heavy Industries Group Co., Ltd.
Over the next decade, Lu Wenjun successively held key positions in several state-owned enterprises such as China First Heavy Machinery Co., Ltd., China Second Heavy Machinery Group Co., Ltd., and China National Heavy Duty Truck Group Co., Ltd.
At the end of 2019, Lu Wenjun was reassigned as the deputy general manager and member of the Party Committee of China First Heavy Industries Group Co., Ltd. Shortly after, he was promoted to the general manager of China First Heavy Industries. In April 2022, the former chairman of China First Heavy, Sui Bingli, resigned, and Lu Wenjun took over as the chairman until he was investigated on May 9 of this year.
It was reported that Lu Wenjun accepted lavish banquets that may have influenced the fair execution of official duties, sought benefits for others in cadre selection and appointment, accepted gifts and money against regulations, used his authority to profit others in business contracting, commission payments, and job adjustments, and illegally received substantial sums of money.
On October 27 of this year, Lu Wenjun was expelled from the Party and dismissed from public office on charges of bribery.
