On December 7th, Sunday, in Hawaii, at the Pearl Harbor National Memorial, a ceremony was held to commemorate the 84th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack, honoring the over 2,400 Americans who sacrificed their lives on that day 84 years ago. New Tang Dynasty Television and Epoch Times conducted a live online broadcast of the event with real-time Chinese translation subtitles.
This year’s commemorative activities are expected to be attended by over a dozen World War II veterans, five “Rosies” (members of the American WWII Veterans Association), a survivor of the Pearl Harbor attack, a WWII nurse, and other WWII survivors.
On December 7th, 1941, the surprise attack on the naval and air bases on the island of Oahu plunged the United States into World War II. In less than two hours, over 2,400 Americans lost their lives, including 1,177 sailors on the USS Arizona battleship. The battleship was sunk or damaged, planes on the ground were destroyed, and the harbor fell into silence amidst the smoke and flames.
Pearl Harbor remains a place to this day to honor those who gave their lives for their country, to commemorate heroic deeds, and to remember the cost of war.
