Chinese Communist Party Sanctions Shen Boyang and Cao Xingcheng, Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council Condemns

On October 14, 2024, Taiwan Affairs Office of the Chinese Communist Party included Taiwanese legislator Shen Boyang, former Chairman of UMC C.C. Wei, and the “Black Bear Academy” on its so-called “stubborn Taiwan independence elements blacklist” and implemented disciplinary actions. The Mainland Affairs Council of the Republic of China (Taiwan) expressed strong condemnation.

According to Chinese Communist Party Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson Chen Binhua, after verifying and identifying clues reporting on Taiwan independence elements, it decided to take disciplinary actions against Taiwanese legislator Shen Boyang, former UMC Chairman C.C. Wei, and the “Black Bear Academy”, prohibiting Shen Boyang, C.C. Wei, and their families from entering mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau.

The Mainland Affairs Council of the Republic of China (Taiwan) released a press statement today, stating that the Chinese Communist Party continuously uses the tactic of “punishing Taiwan independence” to coerce and intimidate the Taiwanese people, attempting to undermine the free and democratic society, which will only push both sides farther apart.

Taiwanese legislator Shen Boyang, in a media interview today, mentioned that the publication of the list by the Taiwan Affairs Office was coordinated with military exercises, and China has always used military exercises to intimidate Taiwan to a certain extent. As for the purpose of disclosing the list, it is intended to provoke within Taiwan, but since “the plane that flies is from the (Chinese) country,” in reality, it is China that is provoking.

C.C. Wei posted on Facebook, stating that China’s announcement of conducting military exercises around Taiwan once again is an attempt to intimidate the people of Taiwan, displaying barbaric behavior that is repugnant.

The Mainland Affairs Council of Taiwan emphasized that “the Republic of China is a sovereign state, and the Beijing authorities have never governed or had jurisdiction over Taiwan, so they have no right to implement any form of punishment on our people based on their internal regulations.” The 23 million people of Taiwan have irrevocable freedom, democracy, and rights according to the Constitution of the Republic of China. The Taiwanese people have long seen through China’s attempts to create the illusion of jurisdiction over Taiwan and achieve “unification,” and they find it difficult to accept and agree with such tactics, which only backfire.

The Mainland Affairs Council of Taiwan pointed out that the Chinese Communist Party has set up reporting boxes to encourage reporting, and as long as the Beijing authorities are willing, any behavior can be incriminated. The actions taken by China today further demonstrate that even normal topics for discussion in democratic and free societies, promoting ideas, and even personal expression of opinions are intolerable and not allowed by China. This also highlights the huge gap between the two sides in terms of political systems, freedom of speech, and rational thinking.

The Mainland Affairs Council of Taiwan stated that the fundamental issue between the two sides is that the Chinese Communist Party refuses to acknowledge the existence of the Republic of China. The Taiwanese people enjoy a political system of democracy and freedom, as well as constitutional and legal protections for their irrevocable liberties. The relevant actions by China will only push the Taiwanese people further away and are detrimental to the peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait.
