Jiangsu Traffic Police Ride Motorcycle Performance, Collide with Child and Ignore the Injured, Sparking Criticism

In a recent open day event at a police camp in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, China, a female traffic officer lost control of her motorcycle during a performance, crashing into the crowd of onlookers and causing injuries to several children. After the accident, instead of attending to the injured children, the female officer urgently called for her colleagues to inspect the fallen motorcycle, sparking criticism and discontent among netizens.

A video circulated online captured the moment when a line of traffic officers on motorcycles were performing at the event, with many parents and children watching from the sidelines. Suddenly, a motorcycle veered out of control and collided with the spectators, resulting in multiple children being knocked down, including one child in red who was sent flying. Gasps and cries of “oh no, oh no” immediately filled the scene.

However, after the female officer got up, she only focused on calling nearby colleagues to inspect the motorcycle, completely disregarding the injured children. In this distressing situation, the host even remarked, “Thanks to the police for the handsome display, let’s give them another round of applause,” which further fueled the criticism from netizens.

Netizens sarcastically remarked, “She was quick to call for help to check her own motorcycle, afraid of it getting damaged. What a display of ‘handsomeness’. The host also showed great insensitivity in his remarks. They only cared about the motorcycle not being damaged.” Comments like, “This is their true nature” and “If the motorcycle is unscathed then it’s all good,” reflected the disapproval from the online community.

According to a report by Hong Kong’s “Sing Tao Daily,” the incident occurred on November 8 at the Suzhou Cultural and Art Center Square during the eighth annual police camp open day event.

On that day, the official media outlet “Suzhou News” from Jiangsu reported on the event, but made no mention of the accident.

On November 11, the Traffic Management Bureau of the Suzhou Public Security Bureau issued a notification stating that on the afternoon of the 8th around 2 p.m., a Suzhou motorcycle officer made a slight “contact” with three “audience members” in the front row during a public skills demonstration due to an operational error. After the incident, the involved officer failed to promptly attend to the “contacted individuals” and has since been criticized and educated. The three “injured persons” have been treated and discharged from the hospital to return home.

The notification did not specify that the injured individuals were “children.”

The official notification once again sparked outrage online, with many questioning, “What do they mean by ‘contact’ in a traffic accident? Is it some newly invented professional term?” and “When people are sent flying, is that still considered just a ‘contact’?”

“Were the three children who were knocked down okay?” “Instead of attending to the injured children, this is clearly a lack of moral character.” “Shouldn’t there be a dismissal and investigation for this?” “Enhance business skills training? When ordinary people bump into someone, shouldn’t the first reaction be to apologize and ask if they are hurt? This series of actions…” “This is a clear case of hit-and-run.”
