The Golden Mountain Bay Area Overseas Chinese Education Center and the San Francisco Branch of the Foreign Affairs Student Cultural Ambassador Association (FASCA) jointly organized the “Youth Navigation to the Future: Efficient Team Leadership Training” forum at the Southern Bay Area Overseas Chinese Education Center on October 19 (last Sunday). The event featured a keynote speech by former Yahoo senior executive Lin Jinxiu, attracting enthusiastic participation from FASCA and TASA members across the United States, as well as nearly a hundred parents.
During the opening of the event, Director Zhuang Yashu of the Overseas Chinese Education Center delivered a speech emphasizing the need for today’s youth to cultivate leadership and team collaboration skills to meet the rapid challenges in campus and workplace environments. She encouraged participants to take action to accumulate experiences and enhance competitiveness, while expressing gratitude to several FASCA mentors such as Chen Andong, Liu Lihao, Wu Jifang, Li Naya, Chen Bohui, and Xu Peiren for their assistance in guiding discussions and providing valuable learning opportunities for young people.
Lin Jinxiu, during an interview, mentioned that outstanding leaders must possess four key qualities: communication skills, integrity, decisiveness, and an open mindset. She emphasized the importance of clear expression, leading by example, encouraging the exchange of diverse opinions, and fostering a healthy environment for discussions. She stressed that leadership is not just about guiding a team but also about self-management and self-growth, highlighting that everyone has the potential to be their own leader.
In her lecture, Lin Jinxiu combined her years of multinational corporate management experience to delve into communication skills and the cultivation of soft power. She encouraged young people to actively express themselves and ask questions during meetings and classes, rather than being silent bystanders. She emphasized the importance of listening to others, accepting different opinions, and making dialogue a bridge to building trust and team cooperation. Furthermore, she advocated for building personal brands and fostering good interpersonal relationships as stepping stones towards becoming excellent leaders through self-management.
FASCA student Zeng Ziling told Epoch Times that the seminar taught her how to express her ideas more clearly, enabling smoother communication with colleagues in the future and avoiding misunderstandings and barriers. She also appreciated the community spirit in FASCA activities, where she could make friends, accumulate volunteer hours, learn event planning, lead teams, and mentor younger students, greatly benefiting students.
Chen Tianyu said that the content of the speaker clarified her future direction and inspired her on how to constantly improve herself in academics and the workplace. Sofie Saxtorph told Epoch Times that she didn’t nod off at all during the entire lecture, as she was captivated by the speaker. She praised Lin Jinxiu as an outstanding speaker whose diverse and innovative viewpoints covered content rarely seen in other leadership seminars, leaving a deep impression on her. Li Weiqing believed that the course taught her many new concepts, helped discover overlooked talents, strengthened team communication, and was very beneficial for becoming a better leader.
During the subsequent interactive session, students and parents enthusiastically asked questions, engaging in lively interactions with Lin Jinxiu on topics such as team leadership and communication collaboration. The speaker carefully addressed every question, creating a warm and harmonious atmosphere at the venue. Participants unanimously expressed that they had gained valuable insights, marking a successful conclusion to the youth leadership forum. ◇
