Taiwanese artist raises funds to create “Peace Bell” for donation to Ukraine.

Since the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine war, Taiwanese artist Lin Shibao, living in the United States, has launched the “One Painting One Prayer” project, creating a watercolor painting every day to pray for Ukraine. So far, he has accumulated over 1,300 artworks, which have been exhibited in 12 countries around the world. The “Shield Art Foundation” founded by him has raised over $250,000 through the sale of paintings, which has been used to support the transportation of ambulances, medical beds, and other supplies into the war-torn areas of Ukraine. Lin himself has personally traveled to the conflict zone to assist in orphanages, accompanying children in seeking hope through creativity amid the gunfire.

In 2025, Lin Shibao returned to Taiwan for the third time, initiating the “Peace Bell” sculpture fundraising campaign with a goal of raising around $65,000 (excluding shipping costs) to create a 2.5-meter-high Peace Bell symbolizing love and hope. Once completed, the artwork will be unveiled in Taiwan during a bell-ringing ceremony before being sent to Marhanets, Ukraine, as the inaugural landmark piece of the local Peace Art Park.

Lin Shibao stated that the Peace Bell is a humanistic art initiative that transcends cultures, borders, and politics, “When the bell rings, it carries Taiwan’s blessings to the world and serves as proof that love and hope continue to be transmitted.”

This year, the Shield Art Foundation has signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Marhanets city government to lease land for 49 years, planning to construct a Peace Art Park in the area, with the Peace Bell being the first step of this endeavor.

To further promote the project, Lin Shibao visited the chairman of “Guanyin Construction,” Zhang Shuitian. Chairman Zhang has long advocated for green energy and ecological building concepts, which align perfectly with Lin Shibao’s spirit of “recycling creativity.” He encouraged his employees to participate in the art selection process, and the cumulative amount of support reached approximately $7,500. Lin Shibao expressed gratitude for the support from the business community, stating that such resonance demonstrates the recognition and trust of different sectors in humanistic art. He emphasized that art must ultimately manifest in actions to bring about real change.
