On August 22, 2025, according to Taiwan’s Central Weather Bureau, a magnitude 5.4 earthquake with a depth of 15.1 kilometers struck at 2:06 p.m. The epicenter was located 42.0 kilometers northeast of the Tainan City Government (in Nanhua District of Tainan City).
The earthquake registered at an intensity level of 4 in Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, Chiayi County, Yunlin County, and Changhua County. Chiayi City, Pingtung County, Taitung County, Nantou County, Hualien County, and Taichung City felt the tremors at intensity level 3. Penghu County and Miaoli County experienced an intensity level of 2. Yilan County and Hsinchu County felt it at intensity level 1.
A national-level warning was issued at 2:06 p.m., announcing a significant earthquake felt in the southern region. As of now, there have been no reports of damage in Changhua, Yunlin, Chiayi, Tainan, Pingtung, or other related counties and cities.
