On July 13th, the “Association of Chinese Supporters for Adam’s Re-election” held a rally in Flushing to boost the re-election campaign of Mayor Eric Adams. Nearly a hundred Chinese supporters chanted slogans in support, enthusiastically shouting, “Another four years!” Adams expressed, “I am one of you, we are the working class of New York.”
Adams appeared amidst the crowd’s cheers and applause. He mentioned that the Asian community hopes not to be victims of harassment, advocates for the development of small businesses, values education and selective admissions, and cares about issues such as combating crime, reducing street violence, elderly welfare, leading New York through the COVID-19 pandemic, promoting after-school tutoring programs, and easing the tax burden on low-income individuals.
Looking ahead, Adams declared, “Four years from now, we will be right here saying: ‘Another four years!’ We have much more work to do, we cannot step back, we must move forward.”
Yukin Wong, the Democratic Party leader of the 65th District and Chairman of the Eastern Chinese Association, stated, “We are Democrats, not democratic socialists. This mayoral election is simple – we have to make the right or wrong choice. We want a Democratic mayor, we do not want a democratic socialist mayor. The socialist candidate wants to eliminate specialized high schools – we disagree; he also aims to freeze rents – what about landlords? Seeing Eric Adams with his solid footing and accomplishments in law enforcement, he is the right choice for us.”
Winnie Greco, a long-time close friend of Adams and his former senior Asian Affairs advisor, also appeared at the rally wearing a light blue T-shirt emblazoned with “Support Adams for Re-election” and confidently posed for photos with others. Her residence was previously searched by the FBI. According to reports from the New York Post, during Adams’ tenure as Brooklyn Borough President from 2014 to 2021, he visited China seven times, all arranged by Greco, who also accompanied Adams on several of these trips.
The rally was presided over by Yiu Tat Yan, the director of the Chinatown Prosperity Association. He organizes the “Chinese New Year Love Parade” in Manhattan’s Chinatown every year during the Chinese New Year, and the Consul General of the Chinese consulate in New York participates in this parade annually.
