Recently, a video has been circulating on social media showing a teenage Chinese American being surrounded by four teenagers on motorcycles at a street intersection on 18th Avenue in Brooklyn, who then proceeded to steal his sneakers before fleeing. The background of the video shows a gray building at least four stories high. The victim is seen leaving the scene only wearing white socks, sparking widespread attention.
In response to this incident, the office of New York State Senator Chen Xueli issued a statement on June 18, acknowledging the content of the video and pointing out that such behavior has violated the law and poses a serious threat to the community’s safety.
The office of Senator Chen Xueli pointed out that based on community feedback, the gangs involved are suspected to have a record of multiple crimes in the area. Currently, the police have not filed a case, and the key lies in the victim actively reporting the incident.
“We urge this victimized student to contact us as soon as possible,” said Senator Chen Xueli. “We will assist him in reporting to the police and cooperate with law enforcement to ensure that these troublemakers who endanger the community are brought to justice, restoring peace to the community and safeguarding the safety of students.”
Senator Chen Xueli emphasized that community safety is one of his top concerns, urging residents, especially teenagers, to bravely report incidents of bullying and robbery and not to suffer alone. He also encourages teenagers to enhance their self-protection abilities, such as developing physical fitness and a spirit of martial arts, while establishing channels of communication with law enforcement and elected representatives.
If the public has any relevant information or needs assistance, they are welcome to contact the office of Senator Chen Xueli. The office is located at 6605 Fort Hamilton Parkway, Brooklyn, NY 11219. Phone: 718-333-0311.
