Hu Ge teams up with Zhao Liying to remake Chow Yun-fat’s “The Bund”

Chinese Actor Hu Ge Rumored to Take Over Chow Yun-fat in a Remake of “The Bund”

Popular mainland Chinese actor, Hu Ge, has been recently rumored to be taking over the role of “Hui Man-keung” in a remake of the classic TV series “The Bund,” with Zhao Liying set to play “Feng Chengcheng.” The news has sparked discussions among fans and the entertainment industry.

Hu Ge was recently spotted in the UK filming for a commercial, sporting a retro look that attracted a lot of attention from passersby. However, there was a minor altercation between the crew trying to maintain order and the curious onlookers.

According to reports from mainland media, there is a recent competition hosted by a streaming platform titled “100 Hong Kong Classic Micro-Drama Project,” where iconic Hong Kong films such as “A Better Tomorrow,” “Happy Ghost,” and “Fist of Fury” will be adapted into short micro-dramas, aiming to reignite the craze for Hong Kong cinema. Winners of the competition stand to receive subsidies ranging from 500,000 to 2 million RMB, with an additional profit share if their work gains popularity after release. The generous terms have garnered attention and discussion from netizens.

Meanwhile, rumors have surfaced online about investors planning to produce a remake of “The Bund,” inviting Hu Ge to play the role of “Hui Man-keung,” Zhao Liying as “Feng Chengcheng,” and William Chan as “Ting Lik.” While there has been no official confirmation from the production team, some netizens question Hu Ge’s ability to embody the ruggedness of the original character portrayed by Chow Yun-fat in the 1980 version of “The Bund,” while his fans are supportive, praising his versatility as an actor.

Among the various opinions, there is a strong voice of dissent. Some fans criticize the trend of endless remakes as repetitive and lacking in originality, warning against “ruining classics.”

In addition, two years after revealing his marriage and the birth of his daughter, rumors have surfaced about Hu Ge’s wife expecting their second child. Despite the joyful news, Hu Ge was spotted in the UK, filming an advertisement at the University of Cambridge, alongside a diverse production crew.

Leaked photos online show Hu Ge dressed in a suit, paired with jeans and brown leather shoes, exuding a British style that drew a crowd of onlookers. At one point, there was a misunderstanding between the crew and bystanders, as they tried to maintain order. Some fans couldn’t help but shout out Hu Ge’s character name, “Mei Changsu,” from the drama “Nirvana in Fire,” to which Hu Ge responded gracefully with a smile.
