Brooklyn McDonald’s Starts Checking IDs at Entrance Due to High Crime Rate.

A McDonald’s restaurant located in Brooklyn has recently started checking customers’ identities at the entrance and prohibiting those under 20 years old without parental accompaniment or valid identification from entering, due to frequent violent incidents.

According to the New York Post, the restaurant is situated at the intersection of Nostrand Avenue and Flatbush Avenue. Last week, a group of teenagers wearing ski masks broke into the store after school, attacked a security guard, and smashed the glass door. Restaurant manager Amber Hussain stated that this incident prompted them to take new security measures.

Nineteen-year-old Hussain recalled, “It was a crazy scene.” She also mentioned that during her one year of working there, 15 to 20 teenagers would disrupt the store every day after school, throwing ice at customers, snatching food from delivery workers, and even smoking marijuana inside the restaurant.

The McDonald’s has seen multiple shooting and stabbing incidents over the years. Police data shows that as of now in 2025, the location has received 29 calls to 911. In the past three years, there have been over 100 reports to the police annually.

The community’s response to this new policy has been mixed. Some believe it is a necessary measure while others think it is too extreme. McDonald’s has not yet commented on this new policy.
